Hello!

I’m Richard

I’m a creative technologist with nearly 30 years of experience, blending web development with a background in film, photography, and urban planning. I have a keen eye for design, a love of clear structure, and a knack for explaining complex technical ideas in plain language.

I’ve been building websites since the early days of the web. Today, I specialize in Drupal and WordPress, and I also work with modern JavaScript tools: React and component-based front-end workflows. I still enjoy coding in plain PHP when it makes sense, and I’m committed to crafting sites that are functional, elegant, and easy to maintain.

Much of my work has been with nonprofits, educational institutions, professional and trade associations, and other mission-driven organizations who value thoughtful, accessible websites that serve their communities well.

I’ve lived in the Seattle area since 1993, having moved from Western New York to attend graduate school. I hold a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Washington and a BA in Media Study from SUNY Buffalo.

Outside of client work, I continue to explore creative media projects. I’m currently developing a short documentary about the Compline Choir at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral in Seattle. I also enjoy making observational videos (especially of trains), and I maintain a small but proud YouTube channel focused on that work. These personal projects reflect the same care, patience, and storytelling that I bring to my web development practice.

I’m also a musician and photographer. I recently released an album with my band, Mysterious Face, and I produce a fortnightly radio show for a low-power neighborhood FM station. I’m continuing a photo series called Junk Drawers, which is exactly what it sounds like: a peek into the quiet archaeology of everyday life.

When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me with my wife of 35 years, our two adult daughters, our son-in-law, and our new grandchild. We all share a love of coffee, cinema, and curiosity about the world.

How I Can Help

Whether you need a new WordPress site, want to modernize an aging Drupal installation, improve your website’s accessibility and/or responsiveness, or plan something entirely new from the ground up, I can help. I also work with custom theming, site performance optimization, content strategy, and gentle training for teams who want to manage their sites more effectively.

As the sole proprietor of Fezziwig Media Arts, I personally manage every aspect of each project. You’ll always communicate directly with me: by email, phone, video call, or whatever works best for you.

If you’re curious about how I might support your work, let’s talk.
